Nutritional Counseling

What is nutritional counseling?

Nutritional coaching is provided by our naturopathic doctor who instructs you on how to eat and what nutritional supplements to take to best support your system and achieve your goals.

Our naturopathic doctor will assist you in elucidating your specific nutritional needs, including macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, fat) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) based on your lifestyle, activity levels, and other metrics.

FAQ

How does nutritional coaching work?

Nutritional coaching is done during a naturopathic consultation.

During your initial naturopathic consultation and assessment, your current diet will be discussed along with any symptoms, health history, and goals. From here, you may be required to complete a seven-day diet diary which will allow for a more in-depth assessment of your current habits. If further laboratory testing is required to understand your unique physiology, it will be discussed at this time.

You will then be provided with a specific dietary plan suited to your unique physiological needs (macro- and micronutrients are considered on this plan). Depending on what best suits your lifestyle, you may be provided with a prescription that outlines a specific meal plan with recipes and/or more generalized recommendations that include foods to eat/avoid, how to assemble a meal, and/or how to select dishes when dining out.

Who could benefit from nutritional coaching?

All individuals would benefit. Whether you are looking to achieve weight loss, better digestion, improved athletic performance, improved lab results, or overall health and wellness, nutritional coaching would benefit you.

Will nutritional coaching help me?

Yes! Whether you’re new to nutritional medicine or well-versed, seeking the guidance of a naturopathic doctor can assist you in individualizing your diet and lifestyle to suit you. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach but rather one that helps you craft a diet that is optimal to your distinct needs and goals.

Is nutritional counseling covered by OHIP or my insurance?

Most insurance plans will offer coverage. Please check your individual plans for more details. Nutritional counseling through our naturopathic doctor is not covered under OHIP plans. The Sport Medicine Clinic will provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Do I need a referral to visit the naturopath for nutritional counseling at the Sport Medicine Clinic?

No, you don’t need a referral. You may book with our Clinic reception at any time.
